Story

This was the last track I wrote/recorded for the album. I chose to put this track 1st on the album simply to set the mood to a positive atmosphere for the rest of the album.

Story

While writing this title track, multiple times I attempted to lengthen this song and ended up either scrapping or creating an entire new song with the extension. After further review, I chose to leave the ending as is.

Story

This was the first track I wrote for this album. Once recorded, initially I found this track gave me a bad vibe. I think it was because this one is much different than anything I've written/recorded in the past. I was not sure if I really liked what I was hearing and feeling. I scrapped this song and came back to it much later to take one more listen. After a few changes, I was satisfied with what I was hearing; though still much different than the style I like to write. I elected to keep this track on the album simply because I felt it was fitting for the title; Journey Of Divine Instrumentation which to me, has two meanings. 1.  I wanted to create many different styles of music within the album. 2.  I wanted to create some sort of accronym within the title as a tribute to Jodi Huisentruit. You know, Jodi and (J)ourney (O)f (D)ivine (I)nstrumentation = JODI. Now you know how the title of the album came about.

Story

This track was specifically written knowing that some day in the future I would put together a tribute video to Jodi Huisentruit. Initially, I decided that I was not going to input what happened to Jodi within the video and just create a tribute video honoring Jodi. After planning the creation of the video, I was sure there are a lot of people that have not heard Jodi's story and do not know who Jodi is. Because of that, I elected to input what happened to Jodi within the video and wrote this track specifically for that portion of the video. I have since completed the video for Jodi which features both this track and "Jodi" on the video. You can view this video on Youtube.

Story

I wrote this track as a tribute honoring Jodi Huisentruit. I grew up with Jodi and graduated high school with Jodi in 1986 in Long Prairie, MN. It was devastating hearing the news back in 1995 of Jodi's disapprearance. Like so many that grew up knowing Jodi, I always wished there was something I could do. While writing the Family Values album, I viewed a news clip of Jodi's story and it reminded me the thought of wishing I could do something to help. I thought by writing a tribute song in Jodi's name, this would be a positive way for me to do something and honor Jodi.

Proceeds from the sale of this track and also "Vanished-Candle Vigilance" will be donated to Jodi's Network Of Hope. This organization was created by friends and former high school classmates of Jodi.

Craig Karolus: Family Values
Family Values
Written by Craig Karolus

Story

Fleurida is a composition I wrote for my mother. The song title bears her name. Currently, she is on her fourth battle with cancer. She is the strongest person I have ever met. She is always positve, energetic and willing to do anything for anyone. She is a true inspiration to live life to the fullest. She never puts herself first, but would much rather do acts of kindness to help others out that are willing to let her. Even when they are not willing, Fleury can become stubborn and usually wins over when she wants to do something positive for someone else. It's deeply embedded in her heart and in her nature to always be willing to help out another any way she can. I tried to portray her strength, kindness and loving nature within this song.

Story

I wrote Jacob's Tribute shortly after the passing of my nephew Jake Karolus in May, 2011. Jake, himself, was a very talented musician. Jake was capable of playing multiple instruments including keyboard, drums, electric guitar, accoustic guitar, bass guitar and an assortment of accoustic drums. I had the honor and privledge to play a few songs with Jake at my father's funeral. Jake was a junior in high school when he passed away and would have graduated from high school in 2012. Jake was always positive, had a very strong relationship with God and like my mother, would do anything to help anyone. Jake liked many genres of music. I tried to emphasis this while writing this song; while at the same time import the many instruments Jake enjoyed playing. I would not consider this song to fall under the genre of New Age. At first, I was a little hesitent about adding this song to the Family Values album. After considering what the story behind the album is about and what the album stands for, I knew it was the right choice.

Story

This being the title track to the album, I tried to blend a mix of emotions into this composition. As the song is played, it starts out somewhat dramatic; then turns more peaceful and energetic towards the end. The mix of emotions plays out how events took place for the Karolus family in 2011. With the deaths of 4 family members and friends; all happening between January and June, it was a relief to have the second half of 2011 be much more gentler and peacefull. For me, writing all of the compositions on this ablum was a way for me to grieve and deal with such an emotional rollcoaster year. Writing music is very healing and I'm grateful to be able to share these feelings with you.

Story

Denis is a composition I wrote shortly after the passing of my father, Denis. This was the first song I wrote for the Family Values album. I released my debut album, Standing On Top, in December, 2010. My father did get the chance to hear that CD before he became ill; not long after that release. He was in the hospital before Christmas, 2010 and passed away on January 3rd, 2011. My father was a kind, gentle person with a green thumb. I tried to instill the gentle traits my father carried within this song.

Story

A tribute to my sister, Terri; who passed away in June, 2011. Within this composition, I tried to instill qualities that Terri carried. She loved the outdoors, played accoustic guitar and was a very kind person.

This composition is a recap of the entire album, which pays tribute to the Karolus family members and friends whose souls were lifted to the Heavens above in 2011; Denis (father), Jake (nephew), Maddie (friend and Jake's girlfriend)  and Terri (sister). It also is a dedication to the two most important women in my life, Fleurida (mother) and Charlotte (wife).

Craig Karolus: Standing On Top
Standing on Top
Written by Craig Karolus

Story

I wrote this song shortly after I met my wife, Char, in 1996. Initially, while working on this song, and listening to this song, it made me only think of her. Thoughts of beauty, peace, love and happiness come to mind. We had this song played at our wedding. As time went along, I began to revise parts of the song. Today, this song not only makes me think of my wife, but also about life itself and all that life has to offer. If I were to do a video of this song, I picture an elderly person who's life flashes before them and they see all the memories that he/she experienced, both good and bad. Now if there were another person standing next to this elderly person that could see the memories of this elderly person, this other person might think, "This person lived a good life", or maybe, "This person missed out on a lot of things in life". This is what this song is about; Live your life to it's fullest potential. Don't miss the opportunities to create positive memories for yourself.

Story

My personal thoughts while writing this song: I think about traveling to a distant place, before traveling back to where I am now.

Story

This song, as well as the entire album, is dedicated to my high school band teacher, Mr. Gove. Standing On Top is a salute to Mr. Gove's mentoring, leadership and commitment to his students to "bring out the best in all of us". The qualities Mr. Gove embedded in me through the marching band carried into my military career and now, into my music career. Mr. Gove is now retired. While working as the band teacher, he was also the leader of the Minnesota National Guard Band. The High School Band (please research the Minnesota Marching M'Bassadors) had a VERY high national reputation for high performance;  a well disciplined band both marching and on the parade field, under Mr. Gove's direction. The band received MANY outstanding performance awards and traveled all over the US to include Hawaii and also Canada.

I am very honored to have been a student of Mr. Gove. I am also honored to dedicate this album to him.

Story

I wrote this song shortly after the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001 (this date also happens to be my son's birthday).

The aftermath, after this tragedy, brought change to the world and I also saw some good things come out of this. At the time, it brought neighbors, communities, even countries closer together than what the world has ever experienced prior to this. I often wonder why it seems like it takes a tragedy to draw people closer together.

To me, the changes, or "mood swings" I depict in this song, identify the feelings, both good and bad, that I experienced watching the tv during this time.

Story

The intro to this song was an experiment to see if I could create a "scary sound" using different combinations of patches from my keyboard. The first time I let my wife, Char, listen to this, she looked at me with "big eyes" and said, "I don't like it". I asked her why, she replied, it's scary. I knew then I had the right combination and the experiment was a success. This song is great to play for Halloween. A friend of mine that runs sound for a band played it between the band's break when they played a gig on Halloween night. It had a great review from the crowd; they loved it!

Story

I would not classify this song as New Age; more so, maybe a rock instrumental. The birth of this song origionated while I was serving in the US Army, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wa. The guitar sound you here at the beginning and end of this song was revised over the years; used to be a piano melody. The lead guitar sounds were influenced by a former co-worker while serving in the Army. He used to come over and we would have jam-sessions. He was a very talented guitarist that gave me the ideas to how this song would sound, once I had the capability to record this.

The title, "Far Away" was named simply because at the time I started putting this song together, I was far away from home.
